About 5:21 a.m. Saturday a Detroit Lakes police officer attempted to stop a vehicle that did not have functioning taillights. The car took off speeding and he pursued, activating his squad car's siren and lights. The car traveled southbound on West Avenue at a high rate of speed, turned onto Holmes Street, and continued through two stop signs at speeds about 60 mph before it finally stopped on Lincoln Avenue.

The driver was handcuffed and later identified as Basswood. She was allegedly very argumentative and demanded that the officer give her a breath test, which he did. She allegedly tested at .16 percent blood alcohol content. At the jail she allegedly tested at .17 percent.

She appeared Monday before District Judge Peter Irvine, who ordered her released without bail, on her own recognizance, and set her next appearance for Sept. 8.
