Brandon Alvin Mead, 24, of Willmar, was sentenced to 51 months in prison Monday on two third-degree drug sale charges for selling methamphetamine to a drug task force informant near one of Willmar's elementary schools and for drugs found during a search of his home.
As part of his sentence handed down by Judge Kathryn N. Smith in Kandiyohi County District Court, Mead was fined $100 and given credit for 125 days already served in jail. Under a plea agreement, the charges were reduced from second-degree counts and another felony for drug sale and a petty misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed.
One of the charges was filed after a CEE-VI Drug Task Force informant purchased 3.7 grams of meth from Mead for $350 on Feb. 20. The sale happened within one city block of Kennedy Elementary School.
The other set of charges was filed after CEE-VI agents served a search warrant on Mead's home on March 4. Officers found, with the assistance of a K-9 unit, 4.2 grams of meth and 86.4 grams of marijuana stashed in a basement wall. They also found numerous items of drug paraphernalia, plus pills and unidentifiable drugs.
Mead's record includes fifth-degree controlled substance convictions in January 2006, April 2008 and December 2008 in Kandiyohi County, plus a felony firearm conviction in 2002 in Meeker County.
