Bonnie Welch is bringing together her artistic talent and love of animals in her business venture, Pond-side Pet Portraits.
Welch, who moved to Park Rapids from the Twin Cities and also owns a hypnosis business, holds a degree in commercial art. She owns three Humane Society cats and until recently, pugs as well.
She was dabbling in drawing friends' pets when about a year ago, one friend suggested she charge for her work.
"I started out doing my own pets and my friends' pets," she says. "It just kind of grew from there."
With pencil and paper, Welch has brought to life dogs, cats, turtles, birds, ferrets and more using submitted photographs.

All portraits are black and white pencil drawings on acid-free paper with three sizes: 11" x 14" ($34 plus $6 shipping), 16" x 20" ($52 plus $8 shipping) or note cards (six for $14 plus $4 shipping).
Art can also be ordered matted and shrink-wrapped. A down payment of $15 is required, with the balance due upon completion. Welch asks for four to six weeks delivery time.
