Park Rapids schools will send students home at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, as snow and high winds envelope the region. Menahga will send students home at 12:30; at last check, Nevis schools were remaining open.
A winter storm warning remains in effect for the Park Rapids area, although the National Weather Service has revised its forecast snow total downward.
"Overnight we reworked the models and we're still looking at a good 6 to 12 inches for Park Rapids, so that's a pretty significant snowfall," said NWS meteorologist Peter Rogers.
"Right now it's stalled out near Jamestown. It's just taking a while longer to get there."
Rogers said once the snow starts falling and winds pick up, "travel will be quite hazardous there."

Blizzard warnings have been issued for west of Hubbard County in the Red River Valley.
The Grand Forks Herald, which has a long tradition of naming blizzards, has dubbed this one Coyote, in honor of Nancy Yoshida's lead dog. Yoshida, from Thompson, N.D., just south of Grand Forks, is competing in this year's Iditarod race in Alaska.
