A Waubun man was sentenced recently in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of issuing dishonored checks.
Jesse Joseph Warren, 30, of 39193 295th Ave., Waubun, was ordered to serve 13 months in prison, stayed on conditions including 120 days in jail, up to five years' supervised probation and payment of $1,160 in fines, plus over $7,300 in unpaid restitution.
He was accused of writing over 100 checks on his checking account at Midwest Bank in Waubun between Dec. 18 and Jan. 17, 2010, knowing that there were insufficient funds in the account to cover the checks.
According to the criminal complaint, between the time Warren opened the account on Dec. 8, and the time the last check was written on Jan. 17, he made a grand total of $120 in cash deposits to the account, while writing nearly $13,670 in checks. Midwest Bank closed the account on Jan. 10.
