Walter Henry McCarren, 85, of Yelm, WA died at his home Jan. 4, 2008.
He was born to Jim and Alice McCarren Feb. 25, 1922 on the family farm in Becker County. He attended local schools through the 12th grade and in 1942 joined the United States Navy. He at-tended basic training in New London, CT and sailed in the Pacific aboard the submarine USS Atule dur-ing World War II. Following the war, he continued to serve until his retirement from active duty in 1962 in Bemidji.
For the next several years, he was employed in the Hibbing/Grand Rapids area until 1984 when he moved to Yelm.
He is survived by a son; one brother, Don; one sister, Delores; three grandchil-dren; three great-grandchildren and numer-ous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were brothers, Lawrence and Bob, and sisters, Esther and Betty.
