A Wadena man was charged July 23 with receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing two car stereo speakers and an amplifier from a parked car, then trying to sell those items back to the original owner.
According to Wadena County District Court documents, Verndale police learned of the theft on Feb. 16, and the items were valued at $1,800. The victim later told police that Timothy Erwin Mindermann, 20, had contacted him and offered to sell him the stolen items back for $200. Police questioned Mindermann and found the speakers and amplifier in his possession. He told police he had bought the items from "a guy in Nimrod" and had paid $200, and was only trying to get his money back in order to return the items, court documents said. However, a juvenile witness told police that Mindermann had told him that he had stolen the items and planned to sell them back to the owner so he could make some money, court documents said.
Mindermann's first appearance on the charge was set for Aug. 17.
