In the first game of a Mid-State Conference doubleheader against Wadena-Deer Creek Tuesday afternoon at the Area High School field, the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team was able to overcome four errors to escape with a 4-3 win.
The Panthers weren't as fortunate in the second game as four more errors led to five unearned runs as W-DC salvaged a split with a 6-4 win.
In the opener, the Panthers capitalized on an error to build a 4-1 lead.
In the first inning, Carly Helfrich doubled and scored on Amy Luther's two-out single. Steph Medved followed with a bunt, which led to two more runs when the throw sailed into right field for a three-base error.
After W-DC used an error to score a run in the second, a single by Cady Clinton and Heather Tretbar's two-out single gave the Panthers a 4-1 edge in the bottom of the inning.

W-DC used errors to score single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before Clinton retired the final seven batters to preserve the win.
In the second game, the Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as two errors set up run-scoring grounders by Danielle Dent and Luther.
Leah Moorhouse was hit by a pitch in the second and scored on Kelli Schweigart's fly ball to give Park Rapids a 3-1 lead.
But two errors helped W-DC score four times in the third as the Wolverines claimed the lead for good.
W-DC scored another run in the fifth for a 6-3 advantage before the Panthers ended the scoring in the sixth on Schweigart's single and Luther's RBI single.
The split left the Panthers with a 2-2 record in conference play and a 7-3 overall record.
