Veronica "Fronie" Filla Nelson, 92, of Crosby died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.

She was born Dec. 19, 1912 to Paul and Julianna Filla on the family farm in Laporte. She attended school in Laporte.

She married John Nelson Feb. 1, 1931 in Two Harbors. They lived throughout Minnesota in Canyon, Sleepy Eye and settled in the Crosby area in the 1930s. In 1962, she began working for St. Joseph's Catholic School as a cook.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Deerwood and Crosby and an active member of the Foresters and the Altar Society.

She is survived by seven sons, Robert "Bob" (Janet), Merlin "Kip" and James "Jim," all of Crosby, Dr. Gerald "Jerry" of Solana Beach, CA, Wayne (Mary Ann) of Buffalo, Bruce "Bud" of Deerwood and Douglas "Dick" (Marilyn) of Minnetonka; two daughters, Veronica "Tutie" Schemmel of Grand Rapids, MI and Scena "Tina" (Ronald) Proodian of Acton, MA; brother, Roman (Lois) of Little Fork; sister, Katherine Swanberg of Cass Lake; 29 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven brothers, John, Albert, Christ, Aloyze, Joseph, Twofil and Andrew; three sisters, twin Victoria Filla, Julia Traverse and Anna Filla; son-in-law, Louis Schemmel; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral: 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby.

Interment: Lakewood Cemetery, Crosby.
