A Verndale man faces a charge of domestic assault after an alleged altercation with a woman.
According to court documents, officers responded May 31 around 1:42 a.m. to a domestic assault call. When police interviewed the woman involved, she said she had been sleeping in her bed when Casey James Anderson, 24, woke her up by shaking her, then he threw her to the floor. She said Anderson grabbed her head and slammed it into the floor, and the physical confrontation continued in the living room and hallway. The woman told police Anderson didn't say anything to her as he was assaulting her, or tell her why he was hurting her, and eventually just said to call the police.
When police talked to Anderson, he had a different recollection of the incident. He told police the woman met him at her apartment door and tried to punch him, and he only pushed her to the floor and held her down. He said the woman took a glass bulb from a lamp and threw it at him. He said he had been upset with the woman for leaving in the car and making him get a ride home from someone else.
Anderson has a previous domestic violence conviction from March 2007.
His first appearance in the case was set for June 16.
