The Roseau County Sheriff's Office is urging the public to stay off Lake of the Woods, Hayes Lake and the Roseau River because of dangerous thin ice.

A number of vehicles, including ATVs, have broken through the ice, the sheriff's office said in a press release.

Sheriff Julie Hanson said that at this time of year, it's nearly impossible to assess the safety of the ice and rescuers would have a difficult time attempting to get to people or vehicles that break through the ice.
