US Army Ret. Master Sgt. Robert Gene Cox Sr., 70, of Fayetteville, NC died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007 at his home.

He was born April 2, 1937, to Earl S. and Clara Hanson Cox in Hubbard County. He was a Vietnam War veteran with more than 30 years of service in the 82nd Airborne Division.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ardella A.; two daughters, Cindy (William) Murray of Hope Mills, NC and Tammy Gordy of Fayetteville, NC; son, Mark Allen of Turbanville, PA; two brothers, Ralph of Menahga and John of Mahtomedi; and a sister, Judy Trandrud of Jamestown; eight grandchildren, three great-granddaughters and four step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Gene Jr. and Timothy Robert; and a sister, Arlene Ost.

Funeral: Friday, Oct. 26 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville with Chaplain Paul Lynn officiating.

Interment: Cumberland Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
