On Saturday December 6, 2014 at 12:30AM the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a house fire in the 8000 block of County Road #3 in rural Deer River MN.
Officers and Fire Department arrived to find a trailer home fully engulfed in fire. An adult woman and two teenage girls were able to escape and were transported to the Deer River hospital with minor injuries. An adult male and an adult female were located inside the residence deceased. Autopsies are scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. Identification of victims is pending notification of family members.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the State Fire Marshall’s Office, Leech Lake Tribal Police Department, Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Deer River Fire Department, Cohasset Fire Department and the Deer River Ambulance Service.

The investigation to the cause of the fire continues by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshalls Office.
Sheriff Tom Burch reports the victims have been identified as April Saunders, age 23, and her sibling, Markus Saunders, age 21, both of Cohasset MN. The investigation as to the cause of the fire continues.
