A rush hour crash on Highway 34 sent two ambulances of victims to the Park Rapids hospital and backed up traffic on the busy highway with commuters heading to work.

The crash, at Highway 20 east of Park Rapids, involved two vehicles that may have collided head-on at the treacherous intersection, which is on a hill with two side avenues at different spots.

Four people were transported, including two children.

According to the State Patrol, Ashley Tyge, believed to be in her 20s, of Park Rapids, was eastbound on Highway 34 when her vehicle struck one driven by Sara Rowe, 32, of Park Rapids, that was northbound on County 20 attempting to turn west onto Highway 34.

Both vehicles had front end damage.

Rowe and her two children, ages five and three, were all transported to the hospital by North Memorial Ambulance. Tyge went to the same hospital in a separate ambulance. All were taken to CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Park Rapids.

At least six officers from various agencies converged on the scene, mostly to direct traffic around the crash. The crash was called in about 10 minutes to 8 a.m. All four victims were believed to have suffered non life-threatening injuries.
