UPDATED: Alcohol-related crash kills one near RDO plant

     What is suspected to be an alcohol-related crash took the life of one person near the RDO plant on Highway 71 south of Park Rapids Tuesday night.

     The crash, at 7:30 p.m., occurred when a 1976 International truck pulled out of the potato plant on Highway 71 and was rear-ended by a 1989 Ford pickup driving without headlights on, the State Patrol said. The driver died at the scene.

     The State Patrol and Hubbard County Sheriff’s Department responded. The highway was still partially closed at 8:30 p.m.

     The Patrol said alcohol was detected on the breath of the deceased driver, who was identified as Scott Gartner, 38, of Park Rapids.

The potato truck driver was identified as Timothy J. Eischens, 58, of Park Rapids.
