A National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist from Grand Forks has not yet been able to travel to any of the likely tornado strike locations that occurred Aug. 7 in northwest Minnesota, but had these notes to share.
According to NWS, there was "a likely rain and downburst wind-wrapped EF1 tornado, running from roughly 3 miles west of Nevis to around 3 miles east-southeast of Nevis from 8:05 to 8:25 p.m. There were tons of snarled and snapped trees through a great deal of central Hubbard County, but this seemed to be the worst line-up.”
The NWS also reports that a funnel cloud, causing no damage or touchdown, likely happened about 3 miles west-northwest of Osage at 7:16 p.m. on Aug 7, based on trusted spotter video showing no evident ground damage.
“Multiple weak funnels and a brief EF0 touchdown” likely occurred about 3 miles west-northwest of Park Rapids at 7:30 p.m., says the NWS, “over those irrigated farms just west of the towers at the big turn north on Hwy. 71.” The NWS received “lots of trusted spotter photos and videos showing at least brief ground contact.”
