A two-car accident north of Detroit Lakes on County Highway 21 on Friday afternoon sent several people to the hospital, some with serious injuries, a Minnesota State Patrol officer said.
The two vehicles collided head-on after one of them crossed the center line, said Dan Mulari of rural Detroit Lakes, who came upon the accident shortly after it took place approximately 3:30 p.m.
"It was so slippery they just hit head on," Mulari said.
Light snowfall was starting to accumulate on the road, with several spots turning white.
Mulari said his was the second vehicle to arrive at the accident site just north of Bakke Lutheran Church.

One of the victims was a 2 year old child, Mulari said.
He said that the child's heart stopped, but helpers at the scene were able to restart it.
The infant was wearing a seatbelt, said Mulari
He added that a female who was in one of the vehicles may have had a compound fracture in her left leg.
"It's a mess," Mulari said of the accident scene.
Besides the State Patrol, the Becker County Sheriff's Office, and the Detroit Lakes police and fire departments responded to the accident.
