Tigers celebrate 1,000 career set assists by Edwards

Cassie Edwards celebrated her 1,000th career set assist as Nevis rolled to a 25-14, 25-10, 25-21 volleyball victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Thursday night at the Tiger Arena.

Jaci Heath served the Tigers to a 9-3 lead in Game 1 with seven straight service points. Maggie Lindow had a winning tip and kill during that stretch. Three more kills by Lindow extended the lead to 17-10 before Ed-wards served four straight points for a 21-10 advantage. Heath had three kills during that stretch. Winning tips by Heath and Lindow and a block by Megan Stambaugh closed out the game.

In Game 2, a kill and service ace by Heath and two kills by Lindow led to a 5-4 Nevis advantage. Lindow then served 10 straight points for a 16-5 edge. Heath had a block and kill, Ed-wards and Stambaugh had kills, and Lindow served an ace during that run. A kill and two ace serves by Stambaugh, a kill by Erin Walters, a kill by Lindow and an ace serve by Kjera Gustafson closed out Game 2.

Heath opened Game 3 with three kills and a tip, Walters had a spike and Edwards had a tip as Nevis claimed a 6-3 lead. Three kills by Lindow, tips by Heath and Edwards, and ace serves by Edwards and Heath led to a 17-13 advantage. Two kills by Lindow, kills by Stambaugh and Edwards, a tip by Stambaugh and an ace serve by Lindow ended the match.

Lindow finished with 15 kills and three ace serves while Heath had 14 kills and four ace serves. Edwards finished with 25 set assists and Stambaugh had six digs and two solo blocks as Nevis improved to 17-1-2 on the season.

Heath's 19 kills and four ace serves led the Tigers to a 25-11, 25-20, 25-20 win at Laporte last Tuesday night.

Stambaugh served six aces and had seven digs, Edwards served five aces and had 30 set assists and eight digs, and Lindow had 10 kills and four solo blocks for Nevis. Heath and Gustafson also had eight digs each.
