The 17-year-old male who died Friday of a drug overdose in East Grand Forks has been identified as Elijah Stai of Park Rapids.
Stai was taken to Altru Hospital last Wednesday for a drug overdose, officials said.
Stai's death is the second one in the Grand Forks area blamed on synthetic drugs in the past week. Grand Forks police believe that Christian Bjerk, 18, of Grand Forks, died from an overdose of a similar hallucinogen. His body was found along a sidewalk in north Grand Forks on June 11.
Multiple law enforcement officials held a meeting in Grand Forks on Tuesday, and issued a press release warning the public about a bad batch of synthetic drugs circulating in the area.
