It’s destination Dorset Sunday, Aug. 2 when cafés, Compañeros food trailer, First English Lutheran Church and businesses roll out the food carpet for sampling of the village’s unique fare and the new mayor proclaimed. Taste of Dorset runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with music, games, wagon rides, a silent auction and other activities available free of charge.
The culmination of the event, a drawing for the next mayor of Dorset, is at 2 p.m. The polls are open at Dorset businesses. A buck buys a vote, the name on the ballot thrown into the hat. A random ballot is pulled during the Taste and a chief magistrate of the metropolis for the next year is declared. This year’s front-runner is James Tufts, 3, whose brother, Bobby Tufts, 6, served two terms. Bobby is now his little brother’s campaign advisor, proclaiming, “Vote for my little bother.” (No, it’s not a typo.) If James claims victory he will be the youngest mayor in the history of Dorset, by two days.
