Superior man charged in Duluth motorcycle accident

A Superior man has been charged with six crimes in connection with an accident in which he allegedly drove drunk and turned in front of a motorcycle driver, causing serious injuries.

A Superior man has been charged with six crimes in connection with an accident in which he allegedly drove drunk and turned in front of a motorcycle driver, causing serious injuries.

Brad William Thompson, 42, is charged in St. Louis County District Court with two counts of criminal vehicular operation resulting in great bodily harm, two counts of driving while impaired, failure to yield when turning left, and driving without insurance.

The collision happened about 9 p.m. May 28. Motorcyclist Richard A. Sobczyk was southbound on Piedmont Avenue when the northbound Thompson turned toward 24th Avenue West in front of him.

Sobczyk struck Thompson's Jeep and sustained a broken ankle and toes, injuries to both wrists and lacerations to his head, face and leg. Sobczyk, 43, of Duluth, has been released from the hospital.
