A weekend blizzard left many stuck at home Monday until roads and driveways could be plowed out.

A foot or more of snow was reported in the Park Rapids area, and Monday dangerous wind chills were reported throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather caused several area schools to be closed Monday, including Park Rapids, Nevis, Menahga, Detroit Lakes and Bemidji. Some downtown Park Rapids businesses were closed Monday, as well, while plows continued to clear snow in town and around the county.

Eric Olson, of Park Rapids, braved the cold Monday morning to shovel his sidewalk, as well as his neighbor's. He said he didn't mind the snow but hoped this was the last big storm of the year.

Luckily, no major accidents were reported in Hubbard County over the weekend, said Chief Deputy Frank Homer.

"We did have a lot of vehicles that were stuck or had gone off the road into the ditch," he said. "The majority was the after-church crowd and then traffic picked up around supper time."

But, otherwise, people were pretty wise about staying home, Homer said.

People might be wise to continue staying in the rest of this week. While the worst of the storm might be over, cold, snowy weather is expected to continue throughout the week.

The National Weather Service predicted wind chill values could be as low as -34 degrees Wednesday, with west/southwest winds up to 11 mph.

Snow and cold temperatures will continue throughout the week.
