State Patrol identifies New York Mills woman who died in collision with potato truck Saturday

NEW YORK MILLS -- The State Patrol has released the name of the New York Mills woman who died Saturday when her car collided with a truck hauling potatoes.

NEW YORK MILLS -- The State Patrol has released the name of the New York Mills woman who died Saturday when her car collided with a truck hauling potatoes.

Delilah G. Perala, 36, of New York Mills was driving a 2006 Mercury Montego.

She collided with 1982 Freightliner semi driven by Daryl L. Trites, 61, of Dent, who received what the State Patrol called non life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred at about noon on Highway 106, two miles south of Highway 10, southeast of New York Mills.

The Mercury was eastbound on County Road 142. According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, the car failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit broadside by the southbound potato truck.

The victim was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

The semi driver was trapped in the truck, and was extracted by emergency crews, which included state troopers, Wadena ambulance and New York Mills firefighters.

Potatoes were scattered across the roadway, and MnDOT was called in to clean up the highway.
