Sister Leonie Lammers
Sister Leonie Lammers, 95, of Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, Crookston died Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston.
Elizabeth Ann Lammers was born March 10, 1911 to Herman and Mary (Moos) Lammers in rural Becker County, near Two Inlets.
She received her elementary education in the country schools near Two Inlets. When she was 12 she moved to Mount Saint Benedict. After completing high school, she and her sister Rose (Sister Pauline) entered the novitiate on Aug. 17, 1926. She was given the name Sister Leonie. She made her final profession of vows Aug. 22, 1932. She earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from St. Catherine College in St. Paul and post-graduate studies at Dunbarton College in Washington, DC and Viterbo College in LaCrosse, WI.
She taught primary grades in East Grand Forks, Detroit Lakes, Thief River Falls, Park Rapids, Red Lake Falls, Crookston and Benson. She served as school principal in Benson, Red Lake Falls and Crookston. During the summer she taught religious vacation schools in the Crookston Diocese and in the educational programs for migrant workers at St. Joseph Parish, Moorhead.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Lois and Beatrice Lammers, both of Crescent City, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and six sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, May 31 in the chapel of Mount Saint Benedict Monastery with Monsignor Roger Grundhaus as celebrant.
