Shirley Espel, 76, of Princeton died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007 at Perry Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 13, 1931 in Kewanee, IL to George and Agnes (Anderson) Venell. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1949 and from Peoria Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.
She married Dale Espel Feb. 11, 1951 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Kewanee. She worked as a surgical technician at Perry Memorial Hospital and Geneva Delnor Hospital.
She was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Princeton and was an associate member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. She was also a member of WELCA in the Rebecca circle, past president of Church Women United, helped run the closet, belonged to an Extension home study group and the Women's Golf League in Park Rapids.
She is survived by her husband; six children, Larry (Cynthia Hasselbusch) of Minnesota, Mary Lynne (Kenneth) Payne of Maine, Amy (Gary) Haut of Lockport, IL, Timothy (Ann) of Hampshire, IL, Thomas (Carolyn) of North Dakota, and Susan (Jim) English of Bollingbrook, IL; sister, Marilyn (Albert) Hanson of Washington; 16 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral: 2 p.m. today (Saturday) at the First Lutheran Church of Princeton with Rev. Barbara Ollila officiating.
Interment: Oakland Cemetery.
