Second graders complete reading challenge

Century Elementary second graders wrapped up their annual Iditarod Reading Challenge last week.

These second graders at Century Elementary School completed a reading challenge.

“Students learned about the historic race held in Alaska the first Saturday of March. We researched mushers and checked in on daily standings. The students were challenged to read to 20 different checkpoints, just like mushers have to check in with checkpoints along the way,” explained teacher Kristen Poehler.

Pictured are the reading “mushers” who made it to Nome. “We even had three finishers make it to Nome from our distant-learning classroom: Hayley Perkett, Brayden Hoffman and Jonathan Smith,” said Poehler.
