Joe and Heather Samuelson purchased the portion of the Ackerman-Laney business owned by Heather's father, Vic Laney, when he retired. The former business partnership was dissolved.

"Now Dad works on a part-time basis," said Heather "the boss" (who went to work for Dad in 2000). "Come to work today," she'll tell her dad, roles now reversed.

"I'm working on the Corvette," he replies.

"We need you in here today," Heather tells him, and his hobby is put on hold.

The Park Rapids Industrial Park is the site of the business, with a recently constructed office, shop and equipment storage facility.

Samuelson-Laney offers a full line of plumbing, heating and cooling options, for new or remodeled structures.

"And if it breaks, we can fix it," said Joe, a service technician who began his career as an electrician. The company will repair heating systems on a 24-hour basis.

Heating options the company offers include forced air, hot water, air-source heat pumps and geo-thermal.

Samuelson-Laney handles Armstrong Air furnaces and air conditioning systems and air-source heat pumps. Sanyo split system air conditioners are available as are Utica, Slant Fin, Buderus and Munchkin boilers. Steffes thermal storage units are also on hand.

Cooling choices are forced air, split systems and chiller systems.

Plumbing fixture choices include Moen, American Standard, Delta, Kohler, Lasco, Price Pfister and Grohe.

Customers who are looking at building or remodeling can bring plans to the Samuelsons, who will design the system, and work from start to finish.
