Roland K. Vik, 74, of Park Rapids died Friday, May 25, 2007 at Villa Maria in Fargo.

He was born June 30, 1932 in White Oak Township near Akeley to Reuben and Mildred Vik. He graduated with honors from Park Rapids High School in 1950.

He enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of master sergeant and was awarded the Combat Infan-tryman's Badge and Korean Battle Ribbon with two bronze stars. After his hon-orable discharge in 1952, he attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

He met his wife, Margue-rite "Pat" Cicero, while at-tending college. They mar-ried in 1953 in Praco, AL and he went to work as the art editor of the Air University Quarterly Review in Mont-gomery, AL.

After they moved to Park Rapids, he began his career in Hubbard County gov-ernment. He served as dep-uty recorder, county treas-urer and audi-tor/administrator, retiring in 1994. He was president of the Minnesota Association of County Treasurers in 1965 and received the Excellence in Government Award from the Association of Minne-sota Counties in 1989.

He served as president of the Rotary Club, St. Joseph's Hospital Board, North Min-nesota Chapter of the Na-tional Society of Arts and Letters, member of Minne-sota Korean War Veterans, American Legion-VFW, His-torical Society, North Coun-try Museum of Arts, Hub-bard County Law Library Board, Airport Zoning Board and Sons of Norway.

He was a life-long mem-ber of St. Johns Lutheran Church, serving as presi-dent of the congregation, building committee, choir and Bible study.

He also taught art and exhibited his watercolors, pastels and oils throughout northern Minnesota.

Surviving are his wife; four children, LaDonne Roland (Vicky) of Moorhead, Erik of Gainesville, GA, Brenda (Kyle) Ronson of Lake Worth, FL and Vanita (Rick) Ohlgren of Horace, ND; brothers, Norman (June) of Tampa, FL and David (Shirley) of Park Rap-ids; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Reuben Olaf Jr.

Funeral: May 29 at Pon-toppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo. There will be a me-morial service at St. Johns Lutheran Church at a later date.

Interment: Sunset Memo-rial Gardens, Fargo.
