Quick start sparks NYM's 49-21 win over Panthers

New York Mills won six of the first seven matches, including five via pins, to defeat the Park Rapids wrestling team 49-21 Tuesday night at the Century School gym.

The Panthers faced an 18-0 deficit after the first three matches before Dylan Holmer posted a 12-0 major decision at 125 pounds. Holmer used a takedown and nearfall in both the first and third periods to spark his win.

New York Mills won the next three matches to build a 33-4 lead. Park Rapids then won four of the next five matches to close the deficit to 37-21.

A second-period takedown and third-period reversal gave Derek Werner a 6-1 minor decision at 145. Danny Pike used a reversal and nearfall in the second period and reversal in the third period to spark a 9-2 minor decision at 160. After John Drury followed with a first-period pin at 171, Jared Nash posted a 16-1 technical fall win at 189. Nash used a takedown and nearfall in the first period, a reversal and nearfall in the second period, and two takedowns and a nearfall in the third period in dominating his match.

New York Mills capped off the victory with pins in the final two matches.

Park Rapids, which fell to 3-4 on the season, will enter the Big Bear Tournament at Cass Lake this weekend.
