The Park Rapids Area High School (PRAHS) drama department holds the state record for taking one-act plays to state competition.
Carrying on that tradition, they earned their 30th trip to St. Paul by winning first place at the Section 6A contest, held Feb. 1 in Hawley.
“I would just say I am so proud of all of the hard work the team has put in to get us to this point. We are thrilled with the opportunity to perform at the state level,” said drama director Abby Jasmer.
PRAHS will be one of eight Single A schools performing at the Minnesota State High School League One-Act Play Festival on the O'Shaughnessy stage at St. Catherine's University. Park Rapids competes at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6.
They are performing “Prometheus,” an award-winning play by Linda Barnes. The question of heroes in a modern world is examined in both comic and serious scenes, all centering around the superhuman figure of Prometheus, giver of fire to humankind.

PRAHS one-act plays previously reached the state tournament in 1961, 1963-64, 1968, 1972-73, 1975-1980, 1982, 1987-91, 1993-94, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2009-11, 2014, 2017 and 2018.
