The Park Rapids School Board on Thursday canvassed the official results of the Nov. 3 school elections.
The school board met via Zoom online video conference.
Based on official returns from Becker and Hubbard counties, the final vote tallies in the race for three positions on the school board was as follows: Sherry Safratowich, 5,067 votes; Jay L. Pike, 4,985 votes; Dana Kocka, 4,252 votes; 111 write-in votes.
Regarding ballot question 1, whether to issue a bond to improve the district’s educational facilities, the final tally was 3,353 voting “yes” and 3,465 voting “no.”
Board chair Sherry Safratowich noted that the “yes” column gained a few votes over the unofficial count reported a week ago, narrowing the gap to only 112 votes.

As for question 2, to issue an additional bond to replace the Century School tennis courts and build a new school bus garage, the final votes were 3,210 “yes” to 3,638 “no.”
According to the abstract provided to the school board, there were 9,424 voters registered in the district as of 7 a.m. on Nov. 3, and 648 voters registered that day. A total of 4,883 regular, military and overseas absentee ballots and mail ballots were accepted, and 8,648 people voted.
School board member Dennis Dodge moved to certify the election returns. The motion passed without dissent, absent board member Jay Pike.
