Park Rapids schools are buzzing with activity, principals reported at Monday’s school board meeting.
Century School principal Joleen DeLaHunt said that several new teachers in the school are a real celebration. Several veteran teachers have stepped up to be mentors to new teachers.
Wednesday afternoon was the first of four staff development sessions this school year at the high school. Other dates are Nov. 6, Jan. 15 and April 9. Students have an early out on those dates.
High school principal Jeff Johnson said teachers were having additional training on iPads at Wednesday’s development day among other education.
In other business, the board:
n Approved a preliminary levy for 2014 of $5,020,182.75 at a 6.1 percent decrease from last year.
Business manager Carol Hutchinson explained that a lot of the data from the state isn’t final. The final levy will be approved in December.
n Recognized several new employees: John Cook, Julie Cook, Gena Dempsey, Shannon Hogan, Erin Foley, Rae Bayman, Abby Sellnow, Ky DeBlieck, Elizabeth Aman, Laurie Conzemius and Shari Emerson.
n Approved hiring Diane Amundson as a cook’s helper.
n Approved the extra-curricular resignation of Tonya Derman as 7th grade girls basketball coach.
n Accepted several donations: A Kimball baby grand piano valued at $4,850 from Curtis and Ruth Bakken, drill bits from Mike Kuhl to the industrial tech program, a 1982 Ford LTD valued at $800 from Elizabeth Bruening to the industrial tech program, $97.33 from Student Paths for the high school, three dozen towels from Kinkel Laundry for the athletic department and $935.34 from Target Take Charge of Education for the high school.
