A Ponsford man will be sentenced March 27 on a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
After a court trial on Monday, Michael Duane Ellis, 52, of 31492 County Highway 35, Ponsford, was found guilty of the charge, which stemmed from a Jan. 30, 2008, incident in which agents of the West Central Minnesota Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at his home. A hunting rifle was found behind the headboard of his bed.
Ellis was previously convicted on a felony burglary charge in 1981 and a felony drug charge in 2001, which precludes him from possessing a firearm.
A court trial was also held for Ellis Monday on an unrelated drug charge. He is accused of selling two ounces of marijuana to a confidential informant of the West Central Minnesota Drug Task Force on Jan. 22, 2008, for the sum of $200. Following the trial, the judge took his case under advisement. A verdict is expected within the week
