Authorities are looking for a man who robbed the Northwestern Bank in Dilworth just before 5 p.m. Monday. The theft marks the second time the bank has been robbed in less than two years.

A lone male believed to be in his 40s entered the bank through the building's east entrance while carrying a black and gray backpack and wearing a full black ski mask, authorities said.

The man then displayed a dark-colored handgun and ordered the three tellers present to give him money, said Dilworth Police Chief Dave Miller.

The bank tellers complied and gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash, which the man then put inside the backpack, Miller said. No customers were in the bank at the time of the robbery.

The man then ordered the bank workers to look down, and he left through the building's east entrance. No one was injured in the robbery, Miller said.

The suspect's direction of travel is unknown, as is whether he fled the area in a vehicle.

Moorhead police and Clay County Sheriff's Office officials also responded to the 4:58 p.m. robbery report and assisted Dilworth police in searching the area for clues. A K-9 unit searched the area during Monday's windy snowstorm, but turned up nothing, Miller said.

Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said the bank workers also described the robber as being "polite."

The workers told police the man was described as being 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing between 230 and 240 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue or greenish-color hooded Carhartt-type jacket, black gloves, and light-colored blue jeans.

Police officials continued their investigation Monday evening with bank employee interviews and viewing surveillance camera footage inside the bank.

Monday's robbery is the second at Dilworth's Northwestern Bank, 4 Main St. N., in less than two years. The last robbery occurred Aug. 17, 2007, and remains unsolved.

It's unknown if Monday's robbery is connected to the one from August 2007. Miller asked anyone with information to call Dilworth police at (218) 287-2666.
