Pickup rolls over with 3-year-old inside

A Park Rapids man and his young passenger were unhurt after their vehicle slid on the ice, went in the ditch and turned on its side in a river.

A local man and a 3-year-old child were trapped in a vehicle that rolled over Tuesday in Hubbard County.

According to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, a one-vehicle rollover was reported at 5:12 p.m. on Oct. 20 on County Road 81, at Sweitzer Lake in Henrietta Township.

Deputies arrived to find where Nicholas Skjonsby, 31, of Park Rapids was traveling east on County 81 in a Ford F-150 when he lost control of the vehicle on an S-curve. The vehicle slid on the icy road, entered the south ditch and tipped on its side in a river. A 3-year-old passenger was also inside the vehicle.

Both occupants were unharmed but needed assistance getting out of the vehicle. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
