Park Rapids Area Schools will start two hours late Wednesday, Jan. 7, said Superintendent Lance Bagstad. He cited extremely cold temperatures and wind chill as the reason. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures overnight will reach a low of around -21 with wind chill values as low as -47. It will be blustery, with a northwest wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
Wednesday will be sunny, with a high near -4 and wind chill values as low as -47. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Wednesday night's forecast shows a 20 percent chance of snow after midnight with increasing clouds and a low around -12. Wind chill values are forecast as low as -31 with a south wind 9 to 11 mph.
