The Park Rapids Area School District has launched an online community survey to gather input from residents on a broad range of school issues, including educational quality, distance learning and long-term goals and investments.
According to a June 22 press release, all adult residents in the district are encouraged to take the online survey at PRoject309.org by Thursday, July 2.
In tandem with the online survey, Park Rapids Area Schools has retained the Morris Leatherman Company to conduct a scientific phone survey and summarize the results. The results of both the phone and online surveys are expected to be released in early July.
“Over the past year, I have been thoroughly impressed with our community’s response in providing feedback about our district’s needs,” said Superintendent Lance Bagstad. “These surveys are another effective way to hear from Park Rapids residents about how we should plan for the future of our schools. I encourage everyone eligible to participate.”
Following a process of community engagement and evaluation of the district’s school buildings, the school board has identified three potential options for residents to consider:

Renovate current school facilities and keep the existing grade configuration.
Reconfigure grades so that Century School serves early childhood through sixth grade, and the high school serves grades 7-12. A new high school wing would house grades 7-9 and the current high school building would be renovated for grades 10-12.
Reconfigure grades so that Century School serves early childhood through 6th grade and construct a new building for grades 7-12.
The school board would like to propose a final plan to district residents as soon as August that could be considered by voters in a November referendum.
