Meeting via Zoom on Monday, the Park Rapids School Board approved the district’s revenues and expenditures budget for fiscal years 2020 and 2021.
Business manager Kent Fritze presented a comparison of budgeted and actual revenues and expenditures for fiscal 2020, which ended June 30, 2020, as well as the budgeted numbers for fiscal 2021.
Revenues for all funds totaled approximately $24.6 million in fiscal 2020, and expenditures totaled about $24.7 million. Meanwhile, fund balances for all funds grew from about $11.8 million to $12.8 million.
Fritze’s fiscal 2021 budget projects revenues and expenditures totaling about $25 million for all accounts and ending fund balances totaling $12.6 million as of June 30, 2021.
The schools’ operating expenditures in fiscal 2020 totaled about $21.6 million, according to his report. Divided by a weighted average enrollment of 1,666 students, that comes to an operating cost of approximately $13,000 per student last year.

Fritze noted the district paid down its outstanding long-term debt by about $2 million during fiscal 2020, from $19.9 million to $17.9 million.
Board member Stephanie Carlson moved to approve the budget. The motion passed by a unanimous roll-call vote.
In consent items and general business, the school board:
Hired Kristry Christa-Prigge as a 2.5-hour per day food service employee.
Confirmed that the school board will canvass school election ballots at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.
Read policies regarding student attendance, student dress and appearance and the enrollment of nonresident students.
The school board’s next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at the Frank White Education Center.
