The threat of rain jeopardized this year’s Park Rapids Fourth of July fireworks display and the weather delay led many to abandon Red Bridge and Heartland Parks. But the show did go on, and in impressive manner.

Weather didn’t matter to one young man walking through Red Bridge Park as he proudly proclaimed during the delay, "You can’t rain out freedom!"

Those that stuck around were glad they did as the annual display was bigger and better than ever. The booming blasts lit up the sky in a colorful tribute to America’s 240th anniversary.

David Collins, chairman of the Park Rapids Rotary fireworks committee was pleased they were able to carry on with the show.

"Everyone working together makes Park Rapids Minnesota’s July 4th Fireworks Capital, home to the biggest and baddest display in the state!"

Numerous people asked what happens with the show in the event of bad weather. Heavy rain held off, allowing the pyrotechnics team and event organizers to complete the show with only about a half hour delay.

"Always a tough call about what to do, and we had many different opinions," Collins said "But in the end I think it went very well."
