The Park Rapids girls tennis team will send two doubles teams to the state Class A girls tennis tournament for the first time in school history.
Senior Mindy Lawrence and junior Mary Kading defeated senior Alyssa Klingenberg and sophomore Alyssa Carlson in three sets in the Section 8A championship match Saturday at Gold's Gym in Sartell.
Lawrence and Kading entered the section meet as the No. 1 seed while Klingenberg and Carlson entered as the No. 6 seed. Lawrence and Kading prevailed 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 in the championship match to give Park Rapids two state qualifiers in doubles.
Park Rapids was also attempting to qualify the team for state, but lost to Crookston 4-3 in a semifinal match Friday in Sartell.
