Individual titles at No. 4 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles led the Park Rapids boys tennis team to a runner-up showing at Thursday's Mid-State Con-ference tournament at the Depot Courts.
Steve Smith won the title at No. 4 singles, Ben Waller and Joe Penning won the title at No. 1 doubles, and Kyle Dickinson and Max Brown won the title at No. 3 doubles to earn all-conference honors and lead the Panthers to 27 team points.
Staples-Motley, which claimed titles in the three other singles spots, repeated as conference champs with 30 points.
Brady Pederson received all-conference honorable mention honors. Pederson and Ted Tiffany placed third at No. 2 doubles. Ryan Kent was the runner-up at No. 3 singles, Alex Renner took third at No. 2 singles and Steve Smith placed fourth at No. 1 singles for the Panthers.
Steve Smith, the No. 1 seed, defeated John Chelmo of Detroit Lakes 6-2, 6-3 and S-M's Jake Denning 6-1, 6-3 to win the title at No. 4 singles.

Waller and Penning lived up to their No. 1 seed by defeating DL's Izzy Stein and Alex Nustad 6-1, 6-4 and S-M's Justin Edin and Derek Wolhowe 6-3, 6-3 to take first at No. 1 doubles.
Dickinson and Brown, the No. 2 seed, defeated Perham's Dylan Ashcroft and Brendon Lange; DL's Eric Roethel and Jake Hart-man 6-2, 6-1; and S-M's Tre-vor Wentworth and Guth-rie Coughlin 6-2, 6-2 to win the title at No. 3 doubles.
Kent, the No. 1 seed at No. 3 singles, finished second with a 6-1, 6-4 win over DL's Robbie Anderson and a loss to S-M's Mike Lindeman.
Renner, the No. 2 seed at No. 2 singles, defeated DL's Bryce Butzer 7-5, 6-3; lost to S-M's Jordan Peterson 6-0, 6-1; and lost to W-DC's Jeff Brown 6-2, 6-1 for third.
Pederson and Tiffany, the No. 3 seed, took third at No. 2 doubles by defeating W-DC's Caleb Bigham and Justin Tucker; losing 6-2, 6-3 to DL's Garrett Frank and Ben VanOffelen; and losing to S-M's Jordan Houselog and Jared Peterson 4-6, 6-1, 11-9.
Mark Smith, the No. 5 seed at No. 1 singles, finished fourth with a 6-3, 7-5 loss to DL's Ryan Borgeson and a 6-2, 6-4 win over W-DC's Derek Blazek.

Staples-Motley used a sweep in singles play to edge the Panthers 4-3 in a Mid-State Conference dual meet Friday afternoon.
Penning and Waller lost only four games at No. 1 doubles, Pederson and Tiffany lost only three games at No. 2 doubles, and Dickinson and Brown lost only five games at No. 3 doubles for the Panthers,. Steve Smith lost in three sets at No. 4 singles as the Panthers fell to 4-2 in the conference and 5-3 overall.
