Pine River-Backus relied on its serving to spark a 25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 25-13 win over the Park Rapids volleyball team Tuesday night at the Area High School gym.
The Tigers strung together a pair of six-point rallies in Game 1, served out the final four points in Game 2, and followed a six-point streak by serving out the final eight points in Game 4 for the win.
In Game 1, a kill by Hailey Lundin, two kills and an ace serve by Hannah Wolff, a kill by Leeza Tostenson, a kill by Olivia Vaadeland, and a kill and two ace serves by Ayana Hartman gave the Panthers a 14-11 advantage. PR-B went on a 7-0 run to take an 18-14 lead. After a kill by Wolff and a block by Wolff and Tostenson pulled Park Rapids to within 18-17, the Tigers went on another 7-0 run to close out the game.
PR-B jumped out to a 12-8 lead in Game 2 before a block by Tostenson, ace serves by Maria Goetz and Jenny Palm, and a tip by Wolff kept the Panthers within 20-18. The Tigers then went on a 5-0 run to close out that game.
Strong serving at the start of Game 3 helped the Panthers avoid the shutout. Two ace serves by Tostenson and an ace serve by Palm sparked the Panthers to a 12-7 lead. Tostenson and Hartman contributed kills during that stretch. A block and two winning spikes by Wolff made it 17-10 and kills by Hartman and Lundin made it 23-18. A kill by Lundin closed out the game.

Park Rapids maintained that momentum into Game 4 as an ace serve by Goetz, two tips by Wolff and a kill by Hartman produced a quick 7-3 lead. But PR-B took control with an 8-0 run for an 11-7 edge. Two kills by Lundin and a kill by Hartman helped the Panthers stay within 16-13 before PR-B went on a 9-0 run to close out the match.
Goetz served three aces and 13 points to go along with 16 set assists. Lundin and Hartman had six kills each while Wolff added five. Shelby Weckwerth led the way with 21 digs and Wolff was in on five blocks as the Panthers' overall record fell to 6-11.
