This year the PRAHS Drama Department began its season with the heartfelt comedy, "Daddy's Girl" by Gary Ray Stapp. Diner owner, Benard Muloovy, was served up a plate of comic chaos when his deceased wife enlisted the services of a mischievous angel to help reunite Benard with their long-lost daughter, Elizabeth. Benard had to decide which young woman was his real daughter, with no shortage of "helpful" advice from the colorful cast of characters frequenting the diner. The performance dates where Oct. 26 and 27, with the play receiving rave reviews! Cast and crew did an outstanding job with this wonderful play.
Our winter production "The Wind in the Willows" by Zoey Zimmerman is a modern, comedic adaptation of the classic novel by Kenneth Grahame. Badger, Rat, Otter, Mole, and the rest of their animal cohorts take off on another fantastic adventure! Their plan is to save the river, enter the Wide World and teach it to rethink its fundamental notions of design, but first, they must overcome a group of criminal weasels and a very stubborn Toad. Performance dates are Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. This is a magical show, perfect for the young and the young at heart!
The drama season ends with a "double-header" this year. PRAHS once again hosts the 24A Sub-section One Act Play Competition all day on Saturday, Jan. 26 in the Park Rapids high school auditorium. The following Saturday, Feb. 2 we will host the 6A Section Contest! First and second place from participating schools performing in the Sub-section contest will go on to perform in the Section 6A contest. Only first place, of the eight one acts performing at Sections, will go on to State. The MSHSL One Act State Festival is held at the O'Shaughnessy Auditorium on the St. Catherine University campus in St. Paul on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 7-8. Both Saturdays are filled with outstanding productions and are a wonderful way to see a wide variety of plays in one location.
Thank you for supporting fine arts in your community by attending one or all of the productions during the 2012-13 drama season and we hope to see you all at the shows!
