Residents of Ottertail were giving moral support on Friday to the family of a 17-year-old boy who was severely injured May 30 when some black powder he was playing with exploded.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department said the name of the victim could not be released since he is a minor.
The incident took place about 8:30 p.m. near the boy's home.
The boy, who sustained severe burns, was taken to Perham Health and later transported to a hospital in the Twin Cities. Authorities said the injuries included second- and third-degree burns to the boy's arms, chest and face.
The boy reportedly found the black powder in a storage area; the powder is believed to be about 80 years old.
