Grand Forks police officers discovered the body of a man and a woman with a severe head wound after conducting a welfare check at a near southside home, according to Sgt. Kevin Kallinen.
The woman was taken to Altru Hospital. Police understood she and the man were a couple.
Investigators searching the single-story duplex home on the 1500 block of 12th Avenue South recovered a handgun.
Officers initially went to the home about 10:02 a.m. after concerned relatives called to say the woman had not reported for work and the man had not shown up for an appointment.
The police department is withholding the identities of the couple pending notification of their families
