Nora Bergseth

Nora Irene Ackerman Bergseth, 87, of Ortonville died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at Appleton Municipal Hospital in Appleton.

She was born Jan. 16, 1919 to Martin and Hattie (Engelman) Winger in Akron Township near Correll. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa and was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Correll. She graduated from Correll High School.

She married Russell Ackerman. They lived in Park Rapids where she worked as a deputy sheriff, cleaning, cooking and taking care of the inmates. They moved to Hastings, where they owned and operated the Twin Kiss Restaurant. They had two daughters.

She married Harold Bergseth May 10, 1974 at Grace Lutheran Church in Correll. They lived near Ortonville.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; two daughters, Judy (Jerry) Finnerty of Excelsior and Shirley (Bob) Wold of Mankato; brother, Robert; sister, Marian Schwandt; two sisters-in-law, Edith Noeske and Mary Warble, both of Park Rapids; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Russell, in 1963; sister, Neola Bakeberg; and brother, Bertrum.

Funeral: Wednesday, Feb. 15 at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville with Pastor Marlene Elmstrom officiating.

Honorary urn bearers: Blake Wold and Jack Heuer.

Active urn bearers: Tony Finnerty and Ann Finnerty.

Inurnment: Eid Cemetery at a later date.

Martha Johannsen

Martha Caroline Johannsen, 82, of Lake George died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 at Heavenwood Health Care Center in Bemidji.

She was born March 23, 1923 to Calvin and Bertha (Taylor) Bayless in Dayton, OH. She graduated in 1941 from Belmore High School in Dayton. She was a secretary for a five star general from 1941 to 1950 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

She married Raymond W. Johannsen Aug. 5, 1950 at Lake George. They farmed east of Lake George. She later worked as a cook and baker for Itasca State Park for many years. For 16 years they wintered in Florida.

She was a member of Lake George Bible Chapel, where she taught Sunday school, release time classes and Vacation Bible School. She served as church treasurer for many years. She was a member of the women's trio with Elsie Lathrop and Gladys Giese. She volunteered at Ah Gwah Ching.

She is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Dave) Peckat of Park Rapids; son, Cal (Cleo) of Lake George; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, granddaughter and two sisters, Ruhuma and Doris.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Lake George Bible Chapel also one hour prior to the service.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2 at Lake George Bible Chapel in Lake George with Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. The organist will be Sharon Hadrava and the soloist will be Rev. Steve Daggett.

Casetbearers: Tim and John Johannsen, Holly and Jeremy Peckat, Jamie Krautkremer, Terri and Dominic Miller.

Interment: Lake George Cemetery.

Jerome Romie' Wenisch

Jerome "Romie" Walter Wenisch, 61, of Ponsford died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 in Mahnomen.

He was born Aug. 16, 1944 to Ervin and Elizabeth Wenisch in Sleepy Eye. He attended many school in Minnesota, Oklahoma and Texas. He joined the US Navy in December 1961 and served aboard the USS Charles P. Cecil. The ship was part of the naval blockade around Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early '60s. He was honorably discharged in December 1965. He returned to Minnesota and worked for the U-Haul Corporation in Shakopee building trailers. He later started his own welding business in Shakopee. He moved to Ponsford where he farmed and logged.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Ponsford.

He is survived by three sons, Scott (Nina) of Prior Lake, Romie Paul (Diane) of Norwood/Young America and Buddy Gene of Callaway; daughter, Misty Dawn of University of North Dakota; four sisters, Patricia (Bob) Fischer, Marlene (Izzy) Mahowald and Charlotte (Billy) White, all of Menahga and Germaine (Richard) Lebens of Eagle Lake; brother, Robert (Donna) of Jordan; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Friday, March 3 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Park Rapids with Father Dennis Wieland officiating. Music will be led by the Allelujah Choir and the organist will be Helen Fischer. Special music will include "Here I Am Lord," "Be Not Afraid," "I Am The Bread Of Life" and "On Eagles Wings."

Casketbearers: Cindy Whelan, Holly Loe, Brian Fischer, Kevin Wenisch, Mike Jackson and Shane Mahowald.

Interment: St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery

Military honors will be provided by the All Veterans Memorial Burial Team under the direction of Buster Eischens. Ray Vaadeland will play the Naval anthem and Taps.

Alma Hallikainen

Alma Hallikainen, 88, of Park Rapids died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

She was born Oct. 15, 1917 to Peter and Selma (Maatta) Hallikainen in Green Valley Township of Becker County. She attended Dist. 92 country school.

She is survived by three sisters, Ida Maki of Park Rapids, Hilda Lehtimaki of Menahga and Ada Hallikainen of Menahga, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lillian and two brothers, Evert and Henry.

Funeral: Private family service was held Monday, Feb. 27 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with Pastor Lowell Skoog officiating.

Casketbearers: Her nieces and nephews.

Interment: Green Valley Cemetery.

Paul O'Bannon

Paul M. O'Bannon, 60, of Park Rapids died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 at his home.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday, March 3 at Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids with Rev. Russ Paulson officiating.
