Northwoods Cellular is now a Verizon dealer, the business located on Highway 34 East offering high speed Internet, nationwide cell phone service without roaming and "fancy phones with incredible keyboard capabilities."
"We're very excited," owner Tammi Hofmeister said of the connection with eight million Verizon customers.
"We're in the big leagues now."
In July 2007, Unicel announced its merger with Verizon, the 18-month transaction completed in January.
Hofmeister has been an agent in the area for seven years, beginning as an employee with Cellular 2000.

Mosquito Creek, the retail business at the site, is being liquidated, she said.
The staff underwent extensive training for the transition.
The "fancy phones" now available are essentially mini computers, Hofmeister explained. The keyboard capabilities offer high speed Internet, e-mail, online shopping and music, with BlackBerry and other "smartphones" available.
Hofmeister expressed gratitude for "customer patience" during the transition period.
