Park Rapids had received around 5 inches of new snow by mid-morning Tuesday.
We're under a winter weather advisory for the entire region until 6 p.m. today.
"We issue winter weather advisories when we expect snow and blowing snow," said National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Hopkins in Grand Forks. "We issue them when we're expecting around four inches of new snow. We were expecting in the range of three to five inches here before it's all said and done."
He said it's possible another inch could fall, as the system is packing quite a bit of moisture.
For holiday travelers, Hopkins said "actually we should be in reasonably decent shape. The system will roll through and then we'll have high pressure over us at least through Thursday. It looks like there's another low late Thursday that's developing out in Wyoming and that's going to scoot across. It looks like we'll see some stuff Friday."

Hopkins said the region is in a pattern "where we're seeing little waves coming off the Rockies and passing through the area."
Hopkins said the meteorologists have been working overtime keeping an eye on all the systems bringing snow, winds and ice.
"It's all for a good cause," he said.
The Forest Riders Snowmobile Club groomed Itasca State Park Monday, but that may need to be packed again.
The club will be out all day today and tomorrow packing and grooming trails around Hubbard County.
Caution is advised on area lakes due to heavy snow cover hiding thin ice.
And, because roadways will be slick with newly fallen snow, law enforcement agencies are urging motorists to slow down and use caution.
