Not only is the upcoming collectible sporting show a good outlet for collectors, but it's also a memorial to a man known throughout the decoy circuit.
"When Lawrence was alive, he and I talked about it," organizer Mark Greenig said. Bethel passed away July 1, 2006. Now, it's a way to "promote the city (of Detroit Lakes) and Bethel's legacy."
The first Lawrence Bethel Memorial Sporting Collectible Show & Sale is Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Washington Square Mall. Admission is free.
Greenig said vendors are still signing up for the show.
"They're coming in from all over the state," he said.

The one-day show will be filled with sporting and other collectibles. Greenig said, it's not just about fishing decoys.
Greenig said if anyone thinks they may have a sporting collectible, bring it to the show for a free appraisal. He added that a vendor may even purchase the collectible because "make, condition (and) rarity drives" this industry. Someone from the show would give a fairer price than having to sell the collectible on a rummage sale.
Any vendors interested in renting a display table at the show can contact Greenig at 847-8842. Cost is $30 per 8-foot table. All hunting and fishing collectible items are accepted at the show. No firearms are allowed.
"It's an exciting thing," he said of the new show. "it's a dynamic thing."
