Contributions from the entire team helped the Nevis girls basketball team pick up a key section win over Menahga and a conference victory over Cass Lake.
Gretta Hjelseth's 30 points and 16 rebounds led the Tigers to a 63-55 win at Menahga last Friday night. Jaci Heath added 9 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists while Becca Gunkel (8) and Emilee Edelman (6) combined for 14 points. Mandy Allman chipped in with five rebounds in this battle between two of the top teams in the West half of Section 5A.
"I was very pleased with our effort," said Nevis head coach Kent Hjelseth. "Everyone who played stepped up. This was a good win for us."
Megan Cleveland led Menahga with 18 points and six assists. Rachael Bruer scored 15 points and Han-nah Dissmore added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Sebeka (10-3), Nevis (9-3) and Menahga (8-3) lead the way in the Section 5A West standings.

Hjelseth (19) and Cassie Edwards (14) combined for 33 points in leading the Tigers to a 68-49 win over Cass Lake Tuesday night. Gunkel (9) and Karly Olson (6) combined for 15 points in that game at the Tiger Arena. That victory gave the Tigers a 5-0 record and the top spot in the North-woods Conference.
"That was another good win for us," said Hjelseth. "Other girls are starting to step up, which is good to see."
